There are plenty of opportunities to practise sports and competitive cycling in Shropshire.
Shropshire has some fantastic mountain bike trails. The Shropshire forests are brilliant, whether you want to ride cross-country, downhill or enjoy a simple fun ride with the family. These include Eastridge Woods, Hopton Woods and Mortimer Forest which have hosted national championship races and which also offer great fun riding for all abilities.
The Long Mynd is also a popular mountain biking destination. The Long Mynd in managed by the National Trust and more information and guidance can be found on their website.
Many of the BMX tracks in Shropshire have recently been refurbished to a professional standard. Helmets are strongly recommended if you choose to ride these tracks.

Road and track cycling
If you are interested in taking part in road or track cycling as a competitive activity then it’s a good idea to join a cycling club. Shropshire has a number of very active cycling clubs. Visit Cycling UK’s Shropshire Page for more details.
The cycle track at Shrewsbury Sports Village is often used for competitive cycle events and galas. Local cycling clubs will be able to supply you with details of these and other events in the area.
