The route

An undulating four and a half mile walk with tremendous views taking three to four hours. This walk takes you through spectacular countryside on the quieter side of the Shropshire Hills. If you want to avoid the crowds, this is the walk for you.

A rugged outcrop of rocks from which there is a magnificent view of the Stretton Hills and the village of Cardington nestling below you to the right. You will have an alternative view of the Shropshire Hills from the side not often seen.

Food, drink and accommodation

Imagine patrolling the border without a decent pub. How would Offa’s Dyke have been built without them? Over a thousand years later, keep up the tradition and stop for a drink and a bite to eat at The Royal Oak at Cardington. This is a charming 15th century free house that serves excellent local beers, wines and soft drinks. They have a lunchtime ‘light bite’ menu Tuesday to Saturday in addition to the main menu which is also available evenings and lunchtimes Tuesday to Saturday. On Sunday lunchtime an alternative menu is offered. Contact them on 01694 771266 or visit
