DESCRIPTION:A relaxed introduction to bushcraft skills\, set in our private woodland on the Llanforda Estate near Oswestry. \nThis half-day course is ideal for beginners or those wanting a focused outdoor experience without committing to a full day. Sessions are hands-on and unhurried\, with experienced instructors guiding participants through core bushcraft skills in a calm woodland environment. \nParticipants will learn safe knife handling\, basic shelter building using carved wooden pegs\, fire preparation and fire lighting with a firesteel\, and simple campfire skills such as boiling water and toasting marshmallows. Techniques are demonstrated step by step\, with plenty of time to practise\, ask questions\, and enjoy being outdoors. \nAll tools and materials are provided. Small group sizes ensure personal guidance throughout. \nSuitable for adults and young people aged 11+.

Join the group for a gentle stroll\, experience the peace and tranquillity of the trees and have a chat with new friends\, there is plenty of inspiration for conversation. \nThere’s no need to plan your route on this walk or worry about getting lost as the route is guided by our friendly volunteers. Come along for some gentle exercise\, then pop to the Café in Comer for tea and cake afterwards. Walking has so many benefits\, it is great for increasing general mobility and muscle strength in the lower body. Walking can also help maintain wellbeing and is widely recognised as a way of improving your mood to reduce the risk of depression. \nThe trails in Comer Woods are surfaced and suitable in wet weather. The walk is relaxed and is suitable for a range of abilities. A Powered Mobility Vehicle is available to borrow. Please email dudmaston@nationaltrust.org.uk for availability. To create a peaceful atmosphere\, free from distractions\, the Wellbeing Walking group is not suitable for dog walkers. Parents or carers with young children (under 3) are welcome to bring them in a pram or sling. \nThis activity is free but please book a space so we know how many walkers to expect. DESCRIPTION:NNAS Night Owl by P600 Mountaineering \nEver been caught out after dark on a walk or fancy exploring at night? Navigating at night adds another level of complexity\, and what may be straightforward in daylight is less so after dark. \nThe NNAS Night Owl is a practical\, hands-on course designed by the NNAS’s experienced team of navigators to introduce you to some of the techniques to make you a confident and effective night navigator. \nThe course is run over a four-hour period\, either in one go or over a few shorter sessions. You’ll cover speed\, timing\, night-time pacing\, contours and relocation along with various navigation strategies that will help you improve the accuracy of your navigation. \nIt is expected that attendees will have some experience of navigation before attending\, such as NNAS Bronze or Silver Navigator Award. \nA £1.50 course fee is paid to the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) on your behalf. Successful candidates will receive a digital certificate at the end of the course.

DESCRIPTION:A full day of practical bushcraft skills in our private woodland on the Llanforda Estate\, designed to build confidence\, independence\, and understanding of life outdoors. \nThis immersive course allows time to develop skills in greater depth\, with a progressive structure that supports learning at a comfortable pace. The day begins with a welcome and safety briefing\, followed by guided sessions covering shelter building\, knife skills\, fire lighting\, and campfire cooking techniques. \nParticipants will carve and use their own wooden pegs\, build and manage a controlled fire\, explore different fire lays\, prepare natural fire materials\, and cook simple food over the campfire. Throughout the day\, instructors support participants to work more independently as confidence grows. \nAll equipment\, materials\, hot drinks\, and snacks are included. Small group sizes ensure a supportive and personal experience. \nSuitable for adults and young people aged 11+. Previous experience is not required.

DESCRIPTION:Join other runners in Comer Woods on the fourth Sunday of every month for a free\, 10k trail run. Enjoy a challenging run with stunning views of the surrounding woodland. The route is made up of two loops so you’ve got the option of completing 4km or the full 10km course. Registration is from 8.30am at The Café by Heath Barns. The Trust10 run will begin at 9am. \n28th September 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Trust 10 across the National Trust. As a celebration\, we are launching the Trust 10 Ultra: Are you a dedicated runner? Why not challenge yourself to running 10 x Trust 10km to raise money for nature. \nAs a thank you for raising at least £100\, you can receive a special edition water bottle whilst stocks last. Join the group for a gentle stroll\, experience the peace and tranquillity of the trees and have a chat with new friends\, there is plenty of inspiration for conversation. \nThere’s no need to plan your route on this walk or worry about getting lost as the route is guided by our friendly volunteers. Come along for some gentle exercise\, then pop to the Café in Comer for tea and cake afterwards. Walking has so many benefits\, it is great for increasing general mobility and muscle strength in the lower body. Walking can also help maintain wellbeing and is widely recognised as a way of improving your mood to reduce the risk of depression. \nThe trails in Comer Woods are surfaced and suitable in wet weather. The walk is relaxed and is suitable for a range of abilities. A Powered Mobility Vehicle is available to borrow. Please email dudmaston@nationaltrust.org.uk for availability. To create a peaceful atmosphere\, free from distractions\, the Wellbeing Walking group is not suitable for dog walkers. Navigating at night adds another level of complexity\, and what may be straightforward in daylight is less so after dark. \nThe NNAS Night Owl is a practical\, hands-on course designed by the NNAS’s experienced team of navigators to introduce you to some of the techniques to make you a confident and effective night navigator. \nThe course is run over a four-hour period\, either in one go or over a few shorter sessions.
