David Jones, an artist with a learning disability, has made a special ceramic tile to help visitors connect with the landscape.
You can find it at the viewpoint.
David moulded clay and materials found in the local area into an organic shape and added simple tactile marks, textures, and words so everyone can ‘feel the landscape’.
Artist Statement
David very much enjoyed creating his clay plaque which represents the Clee Hill and the far distant layered landscape.
David really loves being out in nature. In another Shropshire Hills National Landscapes project, David went out to explore the Shropshire Hills and made clay flags for a community art project called Whispers of the Hills.
David says, “I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to go on another trip — it’s a great place to visit and walk. Creating artwork makes me feel happy, and I want people to feel that happiness when they see my sign.”
Level routes/Trails: Level: A path leads from the car park to the toposcope in the field in front of the viewpoint picnic area.

Ramped Routes: There is a slope to the field gate from the car park.
Gradient: The gradient to the field gate from the car park is significant.
Surface Type: Tarmac surface to the approach to the field gate. There is a grass path to the toposcope.
Swing Gates: One-way opening gate to the toposcope viewing point. The width of the opening is 1388mm.
Latched gates: Latch lock on one side with low visual contrast.
Low Level Rocks: Low level rocks separate parked vehicles from the seating area.
Seating: The majority of benches are provided with backrests and armrests.

Hear: The trilling song of a skylark, or the hoarse croak of a raven. Regular traffic crossing a cattle grid is close to the car park.

The accessible viewpoint at Onny Meadows is easy to reach, with level paths and seating to pause and take in the scenery. Interpretation boards at accessible height and tactile ceramic tiles make the experience inclusive and engaging. Complete your day with a hot drink in the cafe, a browse in the shop, and accessible facilities-all under one roof.
The Knapp at Castle Pulverbatch offers a brief, gentle walk from the car park to a historic mound with wide views. Maintained paths and clear waypoints make it a welcome visit for all abilities.
Leighton's River Severn Meander is a view worth pausing for. With quiet lanes, open skies, and the river looping lazily below, it's a slice of Shropshire serenity.
