Cheswardine Walks – Walk 2 – Little Soudley, Ellerton Wood

Walk directions

1. Step 1

   Turn left out of the car park and go straight ahead into a narrow lane between the houses (Hell Lane). Go through a gate, then keep ahead in a straight line with the hedge on the right. Go over a stile and head diagonally left to a stile by an oak tree.

2. Step 2

   Turn right along Westcott Lane. Follow the road for 500m and cross Halleman's Bridge (No 53) over the Shropshire Union Canal.

3. Step 3

   Immediately turn left onto the canal towpath and follow it southwards (right) for 500m until Fox Bridge (No 52).

4. Step 4

   At Fox Bridge leave the canal via the steps and turn left into the lane at the toр of the steps. Follow the lane to a T junction and turn left. Follow the lane for 1.2km passing Ellerton Wood on the left.

5. Step 5

   Take a left turn at the waymarker at Cross Green, up the tree lined track passing Ellerton Wood again on the left and head up the track to Ellerton Wood Farm. Go through the small gate then right, passing in front of the garages and between the buildings (avoiding the farmyard and farm vehicles).

6. Step 6

   Turn left, go over New Brighton canal bridge (No 51) and carry straight on up the mown path. Go through the offset gate and go straight ahead following the track to the road (this is not the official path but to avoid walking through crops the landowner has given permission to use it).

7. Step 7

   Turn right into the lane opposite the sewage works. Walk for 400m passing Dorway Farm on the left.

8. Step 8

   At the T junction turn left and head back into Cheswardine passing Westcott Lane. Turn left into Podmore Road and the Parish Hall is located on the left.
