Jasmine Yarsley, an artist with a learning disability, has made a special ceramic tile to help visitors connect with the landscape.
You can find it at the viewpoint.
Jasmine moulded clay and materials found in the local area into an organic shape and added simple tactile marks and textures so everyone can ‘feel the landscape’.
This tile is one of a series created for the Open Horizons project, led by Lead Artist Roz Donati of Pneuma Affinity CIC, and made in collaboration with My Options, Telford & Wrekin.
Artist Statement
Jasmine enjoys being creative and likes making art, baking, and learning new things. She describes herself as “sassy” and loves the number 4.
Jasmine gave a big “high four” for this project. She loved working with the clay, especially the painting and would like to do more creating with clay in the future. In this piece Jasmine layered many interesting textures using sprig moulds to represent the shape of Norton Hill Fort and the surrounding Onny Meadows.
She is proud of the artwork she has made and hopes her sign makes people feel happy.
Level routes/Trails: A half-mile (approx. 700m) of surfaced circuit around Onny Meadows, including Kingfisher Corner and wildlfower meadow loops, is generally level and accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Some woodland and meadow side trails are unsurfaced, likely more challenging in wet conditions.
Route Width: Varying widths, some narrow sections, generally 180cm wide and 100cm in certain sections.
Ramped Routes: Initial path from the car park gently slopes toward the meadows. Mostly manageable but slightly challenging in wet conditions.
Gradients: Path gradients are mild to moderate. The route remains largely level, though gentle inclines appear near meadow banks and woodland edges.
Surface Type: Mostly compacted earth, some fine loose chippings on top with some areas that have larger chippings.
Viewing Platforms: A wheelchair accessible pond-dipping platform offers viewing over one of the ponds. Seating benches and picnic tables are spaced near Kingfisher corner, orchard, and along the pond-edge route.
Seating: Multiple benches are placed at key locations such as Kingfisher Corner, alongside the oxbow pools, and within the community garden.
Picnic Area: Picnic tables are available in several spots.
Accessible Picnic Area: Available by the accessible pond platform and in the community garden.
Level Access to Seating: Seating and picnic spots are located along compact level surfaced paths.
Finger Posts: Route is marked as a bridleway in some sections.
Pictorial Information: Partially provided on interpretation boards near key features.
Directional Arrows: Partially provided at junctions and on main surfaced paths, but not consistently throughout secondary meadow trails.
