Church Stretton Circular Walk 1 – Cwmdale & All Stretton

Walk directions

1. Step 1

   From Market Square, walk up Church Way. Turn right onto Church Street. Follow Church Street to the end of the road. Go straight across and continue up Longhills Road. At the very end of the road, turn right into a passageway. At end go through a barrier and turn left into Carding Mill Valley.  

2. Step 2

   Shortly after passing the National Trust ticket hut, take a sharp right turn onto a narrow footpath which climbs uphill and then curves to the left. Continue until you reach a wicket gate near the Golf Clubhouse. Go through the gate. Ring the bell on your left to alert any golfers nearby. Continue straight along the path with the fence on your right and past golf tee No. 2. 

3. Step 3

   As the path bends to the left you'll see beautiful views of Cwmdale and the Long Mynd. Continue following the path downhill and through the farm gate on the right. Head down the slope into Cwmdale and take the footpath directly opposite. This path gently rises toward a group of trees, then bends to the left. Continue along this path as it follows the side of the valley, heading toward All Stretton.  

4. Step 4

   When the path splits, take the left-hand path (The path to the right is for horses and cyclists). Continue until you reach a boundary fence on your right. Stay on the path, keeping the fence to your right. Shortly after reaching the far corner of the fence, you’ll begin to see wonderful views of the hills across the valley.  

5. Step 5

   Stay on the main path, which now begins to gently descend. Ignore any smaller paths leading off to the left. Eventually you will reach a small cottage and a gate on the right. Go through the gate and follow the path downhill to the bottom end of the field. At this point, the route turns right to head back to Church Stretton. 

6. Optional detour

   If you’d like to explore the picturesque village of All Stretton and Batch Valley, turn left and go through the gate. When you're ready to return, simply come back to this point and continue on the main route back to Church Stretton. 

7. Step 6

   Follow the path to the far end of the field and go through a kissing gate. Cross over a drive was and go through a narrow passageway.  When you exit the passageway, take a right fork which climbs uphill at first then descends leading to a gate into Cwmdale.

8. Step 7

   Turn right, then almost immediately turn left through a gate onto a footpath which leads into Madeira Walk.  At the end of the Madeira Walk, turn right into Carding Mill Valley. Almost immediately, take a footpath to the left which leads you back to Longhills Road. Turn left onto Longhills Road and follow it back into town.
