Walk directions

  1. Step 1

With the square on your left go along the High Street and turn right into Sandford Avenue. Follow this road to the traffic lights by the A49. Cross over and take the first left into Watling Street North.

  2. Step 2

As the road bends to the right into Helmeth Road sign, go left up a tarmac farm road, signposted “Caer Caradoc”. Follow the road to a cattle grid. Go through the kissing gate on the right and proceed up the field keeping the hedge on the right to the far corner and follow the track right towards a farm gate.

  3. Step 3

Go through the gate, there are pools on the left. After about 200m look for a plank bridge crossing the stream on your left. Bear left off the main track to cross over the plank bridge. Now turn left – more or less back on yourself - and follow the path along the edge of the stream. Climb over the stile beside a farm gate and stay on the path. The pools are now on your left.

  4. Step 4

Cross over a stile on the left into a field. Turn right and keep the hedge on the right. You should see another stile ahead. Cross over this and almost immediately a second stile. Walk along the field keeping the hedge on your right and then bear left towards a farm gate and stile alongside the A49.

  5. Step 5

Cross over the stile and the A49 and go down the road opposite signposted ‘All Stretton’. There is a children’s play area with picnic tables on the right just before the road crosses a small stream.

  6. Step 6

Just after this, turn right into Farm Lane and follow to the main road. Turn right and take the next left, signposted to the village hall. (To visit the Yew Tree Inn stay on the main road, it is just a little further ahead.)

  7. Step 7

After passing the village hall, look out for a farm gate and kissing gate on the left opposite NT Buxton Quarry. Go through the kissing gate. Walk to the other end of the field, generally keeping the wall/fence on your left. There are views of the ridge of Caer Caradoc on the left.

  8. Step 8

Pass through a kissing gate, cross over a drive and into a narrow passageway between two fences. After passing through a gap bear right up a steep path which eventually goes downhill to a kissing gate. Go through the kissing gate and through a kissing gate almost opposite – crossing over the Cwmdale track – and walk through the wood. The path soon becomes a tarmac road (Madeira Walk).

  9. Step 9

At the end of Madeira Walk, turn right into Carding Mill Valley Road and then almost immediately left through a barrier and up a passageway. On reaching Longhills Road, turn left and follow the road back into town.
