Hodnet Walks 7 – Around Fauls – Fauls Circular Walk

1. Start

   This walk, largely across fields, starts at Fauls’ Church (roadside parking). The churchyard has a WWI Commonwealth War Grave and an unusual Millennium Sculpture. To start, go down the road and turn left on a lane to Fauls Farm, where you take a concrete track on the left. A Viewpoint of the Hawkstone Hills—and into Wales soon follows.

2. Step 2

   After the track becomes earth, look for a hedge gap on the left. Go through it and turn right to reach a stile at ‘A’. To return to Fauls (via Part 1 of the walk) turn left. After 2 stiles you pass through a field gate by a pond, where you turn right and head to a pedestrian gate (by phone mast) onto the road. Now turn left to return to the start.

3. Step 3

   Part 2 of the walk. From ‘A’ go diagonally right across a field and cross 2 close stiles. Then, keeping a hedge on your left, head to another stile before reaching ‘Woodside’. Here, cross a stile and go down the drive to Wood Lane, then turn left to head to ‘B’. From ‘B’ you have a choice of two routes to Upper Mickley.

4. Step 4

   For the main/easier route, turn right and then left through a field gate and head diagonally right to another field gate. Here, turn right to a stile on the left, then go diagonally right, past a farmyard, to a bridge and stile and go up to a field gate onto a lane. Turn left then, later, right at a field gate onto a bridleway. Soon there’s a Viewpoint to Market Drayton and Loggerheads.

5. Step 5

   After a field gate, a pedestrian gate leads to a ‘tunnel of trees’ with a field gate at the end. Now go down to ‘Hoarstone’s’ drive and turn left, then take a pedestrian gate on the left. Keeping a fence, then a hedge, on your right go past Hoarstone Pool and through a field gate.

6. Step 6

   Now head across several fields, passing 3 pedestrian gates on the way, to a gate into a small copse. Exit via a pedestrian gate and cross a field to the end of a hedge. Keeping the hedge on your right, head to another pedestrian gate —but don’t go through it. Instead, turn left and, with a hedge on your right, go up the field to a pedestrian gate, where a lane leads to the start.
