This walks takes you to the south of town, through fields and along the river. It then goes up and back into town following field edges and through a school playing fields. This walk will have lovely views and a chance to glimpse the industrial heritage of this area as you pass an old mill in the valley below. Walk directions
Start
Exit the Bus Station towards the Railway Tavern, and turn left up Beatrice Street. Bear left onto Leg Street. Turn right at traffic lights crossroads and walk through town. Go straight on at roundabout by the statue of man and sheep in Festival Square.
Step 2
At traffic light crossroads turn left onto Lower Brook Street. Turn right into Queen Street. After 20 yards or so cross over and go through kissing gate. Follow path and turn right at another kissing gate.
Step 3
Follow path keeping cemetery to your left. At next kissing gate turn right then straight on through path in field. At next kissing gate go straight on through field and at another kissing gate go straight on.
Step 4
At next kissing gate, bear right - do not pass through it. Follow path and at kissing gate turn right onto road. After about 30 yards turn left over stile and bear right.
Step 5
Walk along with stream on your left. With houses on your left go over stile and turn right onto unmade road. Go straight over main road then through kissing gate.
Step 6
Follow path, keeping large house to right. Over stile and left onto lane. At the road turn left and after about 30 yards turn right over stile.
Step 7
Go straight up field – this is a good viewing point of mill and surrounding hills. At top of field turn right and follow edge to stile putting you on narrow path. Keep inside school playing fields until before main buildings.
Step 8
Turn left through gate onto the road.
Step 9
Walk down road and turn left after the Scouts Hut through the pathway (Penylan Walk) and at end of path turn right onto Upper Brook Street. At the traffic lights, turn left on to Church Street.
Step 10
Alternatively at Step 9, rather than turning on to the pathway after the Scouts Hut, continue along Penylan Lane. Turn left when it joins Upper Church Street. At the traffic lights continue onto Church Street.
Step 11
Continue along Church Street as it becomes Cross Street. Turn left onto Leg Street and follow the road to the right. You have arrived back at Beatrice Street.
