A short, circular walks through Highley with the option to extend through woodlands in the Severn Valley Country Park and can even take up the opportunity of riding on the Severn Valley Railway, which runs through the park, by boarding the train at the Country Park Halt. You can either start and finish at the Severn Centre on Bridgnorth Road, or, simply join the walk from any point on the map.
Turn right out of the Severn Centre car park onto Bridgnorth Road. Continue along Bridgnorth Road for approx 10 mins, until you reach Barke Street on your left hand side.
Turn left up Barke Street, past Rhea Hall Estate, over the brow of the hill and continue until you reach a track on your left approx. third of the way down the hill.
If you would like to extend your walk through the woodlands to the River Severn please follow the optional extension A-I below), rejoin these instructions at point 5.
Turn left onto the track and continue until your approach Rhea Hall.
When the track bears right into Rhea Hall, continue straight ahead onto the narrow footpath past the buildings on your right.
At the end of the footpath turn left onto a track, and follow it uphill and over a cattle grid.
Turn left at junction with another track, and continue up past Stone Manor on your left to a T-junction.
At the T-junction carefully cross straight over into the Severn Centre car park.
Follow points A-I below
Continue down the road, past the caravan park and golf club, until you reach the railway.
Cross straight over the railway via the crossing point.
Once over the railway turn left and follow the path downhill parallel with railway line on your left.
Follow the path as it bears right handed towards the bridge across the river.
Just before you reach the bridge take the left hand path signposted to the 'Country Park Halt'. Follow this for approx 10 mins, until you reach some picnic tables at the Country Park Halt.
Take the left hand path opposite the picnic tables and follow the path across the railway line via the crossing point.
Once over the railway line follow the track uphill until you reach a gate at the top.
Turn left through the gate onto another track, and follow this up past the 'Old Coach House' on your left and over a cattle grid to a T-junction.
Now return to the Severn Centre route directions from Step 6 above.
