Minsterley Red Walk: Hills & Mines

Walk directions

1. Start

   From Village Hall turn left along the main road to the end of 30mph speed limit sign. Turn left and go over the stile and across the field between electric poles towards last oak tree.

2. Step 2

   Bear right and follow the hedge on the right to stile in corner of the field. Cross over the stile and continue with the hedge on left to a stile adjacent to double metal gates. Cross over the stile and continue to another stile with hedge and ditch on the left.

3. Step 3

   Cross over stile and continue diagonally right to stile in corner of field, over a stile and proceed past a stone building on left to a stile alongside a metal gate. Over the stile and follow the track past a house on left to T-junction.

4. Step 4

   Go over the stile straight ahead, cross the field, over another stile and go diagonally to the top corner of the field by the metal sheds.

5. Step 5

   Follow the path up to a track and turn right down it, forking left after 50 yards, then past some cottages to join a tarmac lane near the Snailbeach Mine Centre. (A short diversion to the right brings you to the remains).

6. Step 6

   Turn left up the tarmac lane, climbing steadily until you reach a sharp right hand bend and a wooden Shropshire Way post.

7. Step 7

   Turn left and climb steadily along track through wooded area to a metal gate on right. Pass through the gate, across the field to another gate keeping wire fence on your right.

8. Step 8

   Pass through gate, proceed along the path and then a track until you reach a T-junction, turn right and continue to a waymark post on left of track.

9. Step 9

   Turn left, climb up bank and continue along wet track (sometimes very wet) to road. Turn left and continue past Bank Farm and Poles Coppice to waymark post on the left (CAUTION, NO FOOTPATH).

10. Step 10

    Leave road, enter wood and continue on the path to a waymark post at edge of field, turn right and continue to another waymark post in the corner of field, turn left and continue along edge of the field to an open gateway adjacent to an oak tree on right. Pass through opening, turn left and follow hedge to a metal gate leading to the sports field. Pass through the gate and continue to an opening in the hedge on your left.

11. Step 11

    Pass through opening, down concrete steps, over bridge to tarmac path through housing development onto Callow Crescent, turn left to main road, and then right to Village Hall on the right.
