Knolls at Stiperstones National Nature Reserve serves up rugged beauty without the hard climb. With panoramic views, nearby parking, and an all ability trail, it’s a wild ridge everyone can enjoy. Benches and tactile features make it easy to pause and take in the Shropshire skies.
Parking: Open-air/surface car park off an unnamed access road. Voluntary car parking charges can be paid in advance or on the day using the RingGo app.
Accessible Parking: Designated Blue Badge parking is signposted to the front of the bays at the far end of the car park. The bays have no markings.
Number of Bays Available: Two designated Blue Badge parking bays are available.
Surface Type of Car Park: Tarmac and loose chippings.
Distance from Car Park to Viewpoint: Within 100 metres.

Stephen Clarke, an artist with a learning disability, has made a special ceramic tile to help visitors connect with the landscape.
You can find it at the viewpoint.
Stephen moulded clay and materials found in the local area into an organic shape and added simple tactile marks, textures, and words so everyone can ‘feel the landscape’.
This tile is one of a series created for the Open Horizons project, led by Lead Artist Roz Donati of Pneuma Affinity CIC, and made in collaboration with My Options, Telford & Wrekin.
Artist Statement
Stephen really enjoyed being part of this project. He loves being outdoors, especially gardening and planting, and this connection to nature came through in his work.
He worked with clay using sprig moulds made from Stiperstones rocks and dried heather to create detailed rock and plant textures seen around the Stiperstones.
Stephen took time to explore the materials and was pleased with the results. He would like to continue developing his skills and create more work using clay in the future.
Level routes/Trails: An all-ability trail starts close to the Blue Badge parking and leads to the viewpoint. Further walking routes are identified as having medium to hard difficulty and accessed next to the information panels in the car park.
Route Width: 1200-1800 millimetres.
Ramped routes: There is a sloped approach to the walking routes including the all-ability trail and viewpoint.
Gradient: Slight slopes are provided to the viewpoints.
Accessibility Routes Singposted: The all-ability trail has information board signage at the access point. Information panels in the car park provide walks information.
Surface Type: Tarmac, with loose stones on entry to the all-ability trail. There is a section of cobbled pathway on the footpath next to the viewpoint. A view of the Stiperstones Ridge from the gate leading to further routes, the sloped stone surface can be even.
Swing Gates: There is a single manual gate, with low colour contrast, to the all-ability trail and viewpoint. The width of the gate is 1800 millimetres. This opens in both directions. The single manual gate to the Stiperstones Ridge walking routes has limited colour contrast and opens in one direction. The gate is 1789 millimetres.
Latched Gates: The gates to the all-ability trail and the Stiperstones Ridge walking routes has a latch lock that can be opened from both directions.
Low Level Rocks: Low level rocks provide a barrier in front of the information panels and donations facility in the car park.
Seating: Seating is provided at the viewpoint. Further seating and post and rail resting perches are provided at regular intervals on the all-ability trail.
Benches: Two benches,one with armrests and backrest are provided at the viewing point, The second bench has a backrest only.
Level Access to Seating:Level access to seating is provided.
Distance between Seating Areas: Within 50 metres, including resting perches on the all-ability trail.

Smell: Earthly aromas of the heathland.
Hear: Listen for the ‘Cronk’ of Ravens, skylarks singing in flight, the mewing of passing buzzards and the distinctive ‘go back’ call of the Red Grouse.
