Cheswardine Walks – Walk 6 – Chipnall, Tag Lane

A 3.3 mile circular walk through farmland, wooded areas and along country lanes.

This easy 3.3 mile circular walk starts from Cheswardine Parish Hall and heads out into the farmland to the west of the village.  The route takes you through farmland and down country lanes and through wooded areas.  Please be aware of traffic along the country lanes and you may also encounter livestock on farmland.  This walk is one of six produced by Cheswardine Walking Group, a downloadable summary of these is available below along with the leaflet for walk 6.

Cheswardine

Cheswardine is a rural parish situated about four and a half miles to the south of Market Drayton and adjacent to the border with Staffordshire.  It is comprised of Cheswardine village, the hamlets of Ellerton, Soudley and Chipnall, and small settlements in the surrounding countryside.  The parish church is dedicated to St Swithun and overlooks Cheswardine from the hill at the top of the village.  The village boast two pubs, The Red Lion and The Fox and Hounds with a third pub situated a short distance away on the canal.  For more information about the village and what has been going on please visit the Cheswardine Parish Council website.

Walk directions

  1. Step 1

    Turn right at the Parish Hall into Podmore Road. At the end turn left into Cheswardine High Street. Carry straight on towards the church and turn right into church Lane.

  2. Step 2

    At the T Junction opposite Cheswardine Hall turn left and go uphill towards Chipnall.

  3. Step 3

    At the triangle turn left into Tag Lane. Walk along Tag Lane for a good 1 km passing through Chipnall Wood on either side of the road.

  4. Step 4

    Take the lane on the left leading to Cheswardine Park Farm with the Lodge on the right.

  5. Step 5

    About half way down turn left into the field over the insulated electric fence. Go straight across the field heading for the corner. Go through a gate keeping the wooded area to the left.

  6. Step 6

    Enter Lawn Drumble and exit via a stile. Keep straight ahead through the field with the hedge on the left.

  7. Step 7

    Keeping the wooded area on the left, carry on along the path which runs into Lawn Lane. Go straight ahead through the village and turn right into Podmore Road on the right and the Parish Hall is located on the left.
