Cycle Rides in Southern Oswestry: Morda Meander (8 mile)

A mostly flat, scenic 8 mile route with a few steep hills and two trunk road crossings. A shorter 4 mile route is available for less experienced cyclists avoiding the trunk roads.

A circular family friendly cycle route, mostly on quiet roads, from Oswestry via Morda, with a shorter 4 mile option.

  • Always follow the Highway Code
  • Be considerate to other users, and give way to pedestrians and horse riders
  • Take particular care at junctions, when cycling downhill and on loose surfaces
  • Ride in single file on narrow or busy roads
  • Consider wearing a helmet and high visibility clothing

Ride directions

  1. Step 1

    Start: St Oswald’s Church, Church Street. Turn right out of churchyard on Church Street.

  2. Step 2

    Go straight over the traffic lights. Take care, this is a busy junction. Continue on this road until you pass the Marches School.

  3. Step 3

    Turn right onto Croeswylan Lane. Descend until road swings hard left, cross Morda Brook/river, and then climb to T junction.

  4. Step 4

    Turn left at the T junction

  5. Step 5

    Take the first right onto Nant Lane 

  6. Step 6

    Turn left towards Nant y Caws

  7. Step 7

    Turn right at the T junction towards Sweeney Mountain

  8. Step 8

    Turn left down track with the sign ‘unsuitable for motors’ ; a lovely old green lane. Take care steep descent; track can be muddy in wet weather - not suited to road bikes; fast busy road at end of lane.

  9. Step 9

    Turn right at the end of the track onto the A483. Take care this is a busy trunk road!

  10. Step 10

    Take the next left towards Gwern y Brenin

  11. Step 11

    Turn left towards Gwern y Brenin

  12. Step 12

    Continue straight on at the crossroads

  13. Step 13

    Turn left at the T junction

  14. Step 14

    Turn left at the T junction onto Maesbury Road towards Oswestry

  15. Step 15

    Go straight over the junction with the A483 towards Maesbury Road Industrial Estate. Take care this is a busy trunk road! Use the designated cycle/pedestrian route to cross this junction.

  16. Step 16

    Take the next left onto Weston Road.

  17. Step 17

    Take the next right onto Weston Lane

  18. Step 18

    Turn right onto Weston Avenue

  19. Step 19

    Turn left at the crossroads onto Edward Street

  20. Step 20

    Turn right at the T junction onto Upper Church Street to return to your start point.
