Ludlow Family Friendly Rides: Lady Halton Loop (7 miles)

A 7 mile circular cycle ride, along quiet lanes and tracks, exploring the countryside around Ludlow.

Route Highlights

Linney Riverside Park

On the fields below Ludlow Castle with a children’s play area. A café and patio is open all year round to cater for visitors to the Millennium Green and weir. A lovely place to paddle in the river.

Oakly Park

Oakly Park is part the Earl of Plymouth Estates. It extends to approximately 8000 acres of Shropshire countryside and provides the Ludlow Food Centre with meat and vegetables.

Ludlow Castle

As you return to Ludlow you have a dramatic view of the castle, testimony to the commanding position chosen by its Norman builder Roger De Lacy in about 1085. Open to public. Tel: 01584 873355 or visit www.ludlowcastle.com

Ride directions

  1. Step 1

    Turn right out of the Linney, passing the Mill on the Green and cross over the River Teme using Dinham Bridge.

  2. Step 2

    Turn first right into Halton Lane. Take care: watch out for fast moving traffic when turning right. Follow signs for Priors Halton and the Cliffe Hotel.

  3. Step 3

    Follow rough track through farm. Take care: the track is fairly potholed for this short section.

  4. Step 4

    Dismount at the gate access road (next to the small cottage) and enter Oakly Park using the bridleway gate.

  5. Step 5

    Turn right at Lady Halton, following the main track through the farm. Take care: rough track and cattle grids.

  6. Step 6

    Turn left to return to Ludlow.

  7. Step 7

    Turn left. Take care: steep descent.

  8. Step 8

    Cross back over the River Teme using Dinham Bridge and return to the Millenium Green.
