Ludlow Family Friendly Rides: ‘Racecourse Rendezvous’

A circular route from Bromfield, taking in Ludlow racecourse and Oakly Park.

Route highlights

Ludlow Racecourse

The only remaining racecourse in Shropshire. Tradition has it that in the fourteenth century soldiers from Ludlow Castle came here to practice archery and match their horses against each other.

Stanton Lacy

Stanton Lacy is a small village and parish with an ancient parish church of St Peter’s. The parish used to boast two schools, four Methodist chapels, shops, pubs and a football team but none of these now remain. The route passes Pearce Cycles cycle shop on the approach to Ludlow.

Ride directions

  1. Step 1

    Turn right out of the site and follow the road, signed National Cycle Route 44. Take care when riding over the level crossing.

  2. Step 2

    Ride through the racecourse, passing the golf clubhouse on your left, and then turn left at the junction and join the B4365. Take care.

  3. Step 3

    Turn right, signed Stanton Lacy and follow the road round to the right.

  4. Step 4

    Turn right at the junction and follow the road towards Ludlow, passing Pearce Cycles on your left.

  5. Step 5

    Continue straight over the first mini-roundabout, and then turn right at the next roundabout, passing under the railway bridge.

  6. Step 6

    Turn left immediately after The Bridge pub, onto Corve Street.

  7. Step 7

    Cross over the road and continue down the Linney signed Linney Riverside Park and LRFC.

  8. Step 8

    Turn right over Dinham Bridge and then take the next right down the road signed Priors Halton and The Cliffe Hotel.

  9. Step 9

    Continue along the lane, passing through the farm and Oakly Park.

  10. Step 10

    Pass the weir and Bromfield Church, then cross the A49 using the underpass to return back to the Ludlow Food Centre.
