Shropshire Wild Teams
Do you feel you need to be more active and like the idea of venturing out into the Shropshire countryside?
Shropshire Wild Team volunteers are involved in landscape management projects as well as other outdoor activities.
You don’t need to have any experience and there’s no requirement to be physically fit. We especially welcome people with disabilities or who are receiving support from health or care services.
As part of a team you will travel around Shropshire’s amazing landscapes taking on projects such as:
- Ground clearance
- Footpath maintenance
- Hedge laying
- Gate installation
You will also have a go at other activities such as walking, basic map reading, bush craft skills and wildlife surveys (and any other preferences voiced within each team). Over time you will gain a range of new skills used in the outdoors by professionals and enthusiasts alike.
“The Wild Team is so brilliant, it is helping people feel as if they can really make a difference and learn new skills in a totally relaxed environment. Anyone would truly benefit.” Karen Corfield, Support Worker, New Dawn.
“We at the National Trust on the Long Mynd rely heavily on volunteers to help us manage over 5,000 acres of important and beautiful heathland, wet flushes and wooded areas. It’s vital for us to develop partnerships with other conservation bodies. The Wild Team are a brilliant, hardworking, and reliable group of people who just get stuck in. Come rain, shine, or indeed a bit more rain, they remain constantly buoyant, happy and giving their best throughout. It’s a pleasure for me to work with such willing and dedicated members of the community. Thank you Wild Team” Patrick Edwards, National Trust.
“I used to stay indoors and keep the curtains closed. Now when I get up I open them wide to see what the day is going to bring” Wild Team volunteer.
“I think I have learnt more in the past four trips out with the Wild Teams than my 15 years of living in the countryside!” Wild Team volunteer.
