Remembering our local heroes
As part of the commemoration of the Centenary of World War 1 a series of self guided walks have been developed. These walks encourage us to remember the people of Shropshire who contributed to the war and the impact of the war on the home front.
They are amazing stories of remarkable individuals and surprising events and places associated with the war, developed by enthusiastic volunteers with a special interest in World War 1.
These walks are highly recommended to everyone with a interest in the war.
The War Walks offer a selection of terrains, from walks through towns and villages, to gentle countryside strolls. Each walk showcases unique wartime stories, including memorials, battle sites, and narratives of local significance.
The series spans across villages and towns, inviting walkers of all abilities to explore Shropshire’s rich historical and natural landscapes.
